Blog Challenge #11: What are your 15 Favorite things?

Hello there~

This week’s blog prompt is one of my favorites. I’ve done a favorites list before so I will adjust this one a bit and give you my current favorite obsessions. Enjoy!

  • Amazon Prime

I know I’m probably a little late to the game but Amazon Prime is a life changer! But buyers and shoppers beware. You order things and they are delivered to your door in 2 days. Need I say more?!? If you are a new mom, workaholic, busy busy bee…you need to sign up now!

  • Pumpkin Patch Family Photos

My little family of three will be getting our pumpkin patch photo next week and these pictures are my inspiration…hoping that I get my little 11 week old to smile or at least be awake.

  • Honey/Lemon Hot Water

So I’ve been fighting off my traditional change of the season cold and this little remedy is so amazing. The lemon is a natural cleanser and the honey sooths a sore throat and battles against a nagging cough. I’m still drinking my little “cocktail” after 2 weeks and I think I’m hooked!

  • NFL RedZone

Ok, so I do love college football (I’m a born and raised Gainesville, FL girl, so the GATORs are my guys!) but I’m not really into professional football. However, my hubby is all about it. So we recently added NFL Redzone to our cable package and I’m impressed. It’s a new way to watch football. Instead of switching channels and watching tons of games at once, Redzone only shows you the teams that are close to scoring. It’s more exciting! AND…at the end of the l-o-n-g day of football they have the “Touchdown Montague” that shows every touchdown from every game! It’s fun!

  • Jaclyn Hill Eye-shadow Palette

Just look at these colors, GORGEOUS! Also, there are so many YouTube tutorials circling around with hundreds of ways to apply these colors. Click here to check out one from Tati.

3

  • L’Oréal Infallible Lipstick in the color “Milk and Cookies”

This shade is perfect for fall! I’ll be wearing it in my pumpkin patch photos!

4

  • 90 Day Fiancé on TLC

This show has me hooked! The couples that travel the world for their true love and get engaged the first time they meet in person and get married within 90 days of getting back to the US. It’s great TV!

  • Austin Texas Coffee Houses

Austin knows how to do coffee and it seems that every coffee shop has cute photo opps too!

Screenshot_20171006-125127

  • Rubies

My son was born in July and out of ALLLLLL my jewelry, I do not have any rubies (the birthstone for July). Which one of these do I need for my collection? (Click here to have a closer look or to buy before I can get my hands on them ;o)

  • Over the knee boots

My favorite Instagramer, Alyson Haley, has been posting pics of “over the knee” boots and I need some. I actually had some years ago but got rid of them thinking they were out of style. Sorry hubby….from now on, I am keeping everything!!!

  • Gourd Painting

This is just good fall fun. Check out these Pinterest ones…

  • Lime Lush Boutique

I’ve been adding outfits from this boutique to my online shopping cart for weeks. I want to order from them so bad. Does anyone have good/bad reviews to share? All their outfits and clothes are SO cute!

  • Charlotte Russe Ankle Boots

I know that this store has very inexpensive things but their booties are great quality. I bought a pair last year for fall and even wore them through snowy days in Indiana and they are still in great shape for this year. Today they are having a 50% off sale. These are the pairs I am ordering…

  • Ruffle Tops

Anything with ruffles makes me smile. I love these tops from Nordstrom!

  • Pot Roast

I made this recipe last night and OH MY GOODNESS it was amazing. So simple and quick but a great finished product!

Hope you enjoyed this post! Happy Friday and next week is: What’s in your fridge?

Blog Challenge #10: What is your best physical feature?

Whew this challenge was a hard one for me! As women it seems difficult to speak kindly of ourselves out loud and especially write it down for the world to read. I clam up when thinking about giving myself a compliment, it’s like I’m about to break some cardinal rule. But, I want to break that mold and boldly give myself a compliment this week.

quote

I think my eyes are my best physical feature.

They are blue and I’m a girly girl and love makeup so I’m always playing around with color and eyeliner to make my eyes really pop. I recently fell in love with Jaclyn Hill on YouTube. She is a makeup guru and an expert artist. She has a list of her favorite drugstore makeup products and I have to say that I purchased all her recommendation and she is spot on! And if you are a girl who loves her eyes/eye lashes, the L’Oréal mascara is the best on the market. I have used all kinds of mascara, even some that cost more than what should be legal but L’Oréal is the best!

Here is the top picks from the drugstore from makeup YouTubers, including Jaclyn. Click here to see the link.

Back to my topic…the first thing that popped in my mind about today’s challenge was a love letter my hubby wrote to me back when we were dating. He compiled a list of his top favorite things about me. Silly I know…but when you are young and in love these corny things warm your heart. I’ll let you read the part about my eyes.

Also, if you are wondering what the #1 thing was…it was my heart, he’s such a good man! ;o)

What’s your best physical feature? Don’t be shy!

Next week’s challenge is: List 15 of your favorite things. (this one will be fun!)

Blog Challenge #8: What’s in your handbag?

I have two handbags that I use depending on the day. I have my little Louis Vuitton Eva Clutch that is my jewel and I have my bigger Michael Kors bucket tote that is more practical for an everyday “mom on the go”. Here are a few essentials that I carry (some I can’t fit in my Eva clutch sadly…if only it were a tad bigger!)

NYX Lip gloss ~ I know that I have raved about these in some of my earlier blogs but these little drug store lip glosses are amazing. And…I love their name “butter gloss” and they are just that! I have the shade Strawberry Parfait and pick up this shade whenever I am in a CVS or Ulta. If you go to look for this shade and don’t see it, I’ve probably already raided your local drug store :o)

lip butter

Mac Blot Powder ~ This stuff is amazing if you live in a humid climate and have oily/combination skin like me. It is translucent and gives you an “I just finished my makeup” look any time of day even if you’ve been on the go for hours.

mac

Burt’s Bees Witch Hazel Hand Sanitizer ~ This stuff is an inspiration from my mom. I absolutely love that it is an all-natural sanitizer and the smell is very crisp and clean in my opinion. It comes in a spritz bottle but beware…not everyone will love the scent.

burts bees

Cash ~ Yes, I’m still old school and carry cash wherever I go. My hubby and I have adopted Dave Ramsey’s idea of taking out cash for the week and once it is spent, you’re done! Here are some other fun money saving tips from the master of getting out of debt.

ramset.jpg

A Pretty Hair Clip ~ This is a necessity in case you are having “one of those” hair days. A cute clip can save you from feeling frumpy. Here are a few of my favorites hair goodies from Etsy.

My Sparkle Card Holder ~ No matter how old I get, I still run into Claire’s to check out their cute sparkly stuff sometimes when I am killing time in a mall. I found this cute card holder that is perfect for either of my bags. It is just big enough to hold my necessity cards and the texture of the outside makes it easy to find when you are digging around at checkout. Claire’s had all different colors too!

Ginger Altoids ~ I don’t usually like the taste of ginger but these little heavenly drops are amazing! Get you some!

That’s pretty much all I carry. Of course I am like any woman and have the additional 5lbs of loose change in the bottom of my bag that makes it feel like I am carrying more than what I am. What are some of your handbag content essentials? Am I missing something that I need for on the go? Thank you for reading and happy Friday!

Next week’s writing prompt is: What are your worst habits?

My Style Icons ~ Past & Present

My Style Icons ~ Past & Present

When I hit my 30s, I realized that I had two specific looks. I had my classic, tribute to retro, polished look and my trendy, fun, quirky style. Both of these styles give a fashion nod to my two fashion icons. One is from the past and one is current.

Elizabeth Taylor is my “past” style icon. First off, I love her signature makeup looks. In particular, I love her black, winged eyeliner with pink lipstick. I feel this is a flattering look on us brunette girls. My favorite eyeliner is the liquid, boot black, liner from MAC and my favorite pink lipsticks come from the drugstore brand, Milani.

Elizabeth Taylor also had a way of pairing a simple fitted dress in a single color with some dramatic earrings. This is my go-to date night look, wedding guest look, and Sunday best look.

Alyson Haley is my “current” style icon. She has a gorgeous Instagram feed that you have to scroll through. Her style is on point! She knows how to pair colors, layer pieces, and just look effortlessly stunning. The mix of trendy pieces with classics is what speaks to me. Here are a few photos if you are not familiar with her.

One random thing that I noticed is that she always pairs her oversized watch with a bracelet. I don’t know why I love this so much, but I have gotten to where I can’t wear my watch without a bracelet with it. She is very influential!!! :o) I am linking some similar bracelets below.

A start of Summer Trends…

A start of Summer Trends…

This week I bring to you some fun trendy accessories for summer that I have noticed and am slowly becoming obsessed with as well.

  • Anything mermaid!

You might be a mermaid if you love the beach. Always are trying to obtain the perfect salty, wavy, tousled hair look. Have a little bit of a colorful, gypsy soul. Love finding beauty in simple things, like the perfect shell on the beach. If this is you…here are some perfect accessories for your mermaid transition.

  • Beach Towel Blankets

These gorgeous towels can make any beach a paradise. Cozy and fun with plenty of room to layout, have a mini snack bar, and enjoy the whole day/evening at the beach.

  • Kimonos

These breezy, lightweight, wonders of the world are a new favorite to me. Kimonos can be worn over your bathing suit as a cover-up without being too hot or can be dressed up for a shopping venture or night out. All in all the perfect accessory for summer. Prints and solids and something for everyone!

  • Light-Colored Nails

Let’s face it, light colors make you appear tanner. Or so I have found. These fun light colors for summer will compliment you summer wardrobe and accentuate you glowing skin!

  • Layered Dainty Gold Necklaces

This is a trend that started last summer or the one before and I see it sticking around for a while. Delicate chains layered up together give a feminine, boho look that pairs well with any kind of style. The good thing about investing in gold is that they will not tarnish (or turn your skin green eeekk). Plus you will have them for summers to come and the salty air/beach waves will not hurt them.

  • A good DIY project

Now that the weather is so nice and we are all dying to be outside to make up for our winter vitamin C deficit. Check out a few of these fun and adorable DIY projects to do with a friend or solo.

  • Grill Out Recipes

Grilling out screams summer to me. You can extend your long summer day well into the evening by taking your dinner time outside on the porch. Let everyone enjoy some coconut water while you throw some healthy eats on the grill.

  • Fun Pool Floats

These summer necessities have been causing a lot of craze on social media ~ especially my Instagram feed. I need them all!

As the summer goes on, I will be back to bring you some more trendy, fun ideas to make the most of summer 2017. I hope enjoyed this post and Happy Friday!!!

A Few of My Favorite Things ~ Spring 2017

A Few of My Favorite Things ~ Spring 2017
  • Off the Shoulder Tops

This look is very feminine and youthful with a lot of different options to choose. My favorites have tiny, nautical stripes or a simple solid color to be able to add a bold accessory. This silhouette looks gorgeous with your hair swept up in a messy bun for a day exploring local boutiques or with your hair down for a romantic date night. Either way, you need this look in your wardrobe for spring!

  • Gemstone Statement Ring

I love the David Yurman look of a bold middle finger ring. The one that Alyson Haley has in the photo below is also gorgeous! If you don’t have the money for such a prestigious name brand…check out a few of these bright and fun alternatives. I opt for the ones with a bold blue color or one that has a subtle light green or blue –almost white look.

  • Braids

I am obsessed with braids both big and small. I feel like they add a layer of dimension and sophistication to any hairstyle. Check out a few of these…

  • A Nude Shoe

I think these have been a staple in my closet forever. A nude shoe gives the illusion of longer legs and also can be paired with black, brown or blue. Versatile and summery!

  • Highlight

No not the kind to hightlight your favorite book. And no, not highlights for your hair. I mean highlight for your makeup. Whether it be on your cheekbones or on your collar bones, a little highlighter goes a long way and adds a dewy and fresh glow to any spring day. Elf cosmetics makes a great dupe for the more luxurious and expensive brands. My favorite high end one is by Becca cosmetics.

  • A pair of Sunnies

These sunglasses just make me smile. They remind me of something from the 80s which reminds me of being young, looking forward to spring break on the beach in Daytona Florida, and all those cheesy surf shop/souvenir shops on the main drag.

  • Succulent Plants

Ok, these are kind of off the subject of fashion but this type of flower/plant just make me smile. They are so delicate and picture perfect, look that they almost look fake. They come is gorgeous pops of color and here is a little link on how to not kill them. (click here)

Flashback Friday ~ Retro Style

The good ole retro days. The decades of the 50s, 60s, 70s, and even 80s. My mind associates these time periods with a more wholesome and less stressful day to day life. There wasn’t the craze of constantly being on your phone, updating your snapchat, or making sure to capture every moment in a picture for social media. A lot of great minds came from these decades, look what their inventions and technology have given us. I’m thankful for the new advancements in some regards but I wish I had the experience of hanging out with friends in a local diner, putting a nickel in the jukebox, and having a coke in a glass bottle.

I also love the styles back then. The winged eye-liner, the red lips, the feminine clothes, maybe not the bouffant hair though. I love the big, chunky, gold jewelry and the statement rings.

Even though we can’t go back in time to these glory days, we can still take time to not let the hectic life that is demanded of us totally crush our creative selves. Take time to call a friend instead of text, go do a fun project instead of pin a bunch of ideas on pinterest, and when you go on a corny skating date with your love ditch the stress of having to capture the perfect photo for Instagram and concentrate on creating a lasting memory instead. If you must take a photo, take a Polaroid. :o)

Fall Must Have List

1) Black & White Striped Long Sleeve Shirt

I don’t really know if this is just a fall must have. I am obsessed with a basic striped tee for summer or fall. It is so versatile. You can pair it with black leggings or jeans. It looks great layered with a floral shirt under it or a vest on top. Here are a few styling photos to help inspire you. There is a fabulous long sleeve version online at Nordstrom’s for less than $30!!!

 2)  Peep Toe Booties

These little beauties are prefect for us living in Florida or the Mid-West. They transition easily from summer to fall and look cute with virtually anything. Here are a few of my favorites!

3) A blanket scarf ~ with some plaid preferably

I’m obsessed with blanket scarves. If you are sitting around a campfire, the sun is setting, there is a little chill, your honey is making you a s’more, and you take your gorgeous blanket scarf and wrap it around your shoulders…that is just pure fall bliss!

4) Gold Stud Earrings

My hair gets tons of static once the seasons start to change. I find myself usually turning to my tried-and-true messy bun or French braid. This makes way for some bold statement earrings. I like wearing studs so they don’t catch on my scarf or hat. Check these out…

5) Floppy Hat

These are not only trendy but keep the snowflakes out of your eyes (if you have to worry about such things). They come in all different colors and give a boho yet polished vibe.

5) Green Stackable Rings

I tend to gravitate to all black, grey, and white attire during the fall and winter so a happy splash of color is a good thing. Green is one of my favorite colors and stackable rings are the best thing since pumpkin spice latte. Here’s a few examples. Stack ‘em up!

6) Burgundy Lips and/or Nails

I love this color pretty much anytime but fall/winter is the best time to break out some new lipstick in a rich shade.
