Blog Challenge #12: What’s in your fridge?

This week’s writing prompt was hard for me….hence the “challenge” I guess. To be honest, I’ve always been quite embarrassed of my fridge ever since I have lived on my own. I feel like I never have enough food in there, or I have expired food and forget to throw it out. I remember when I first started dating my hubby, he looked in the bottom “crisper” drawer to see if I had a tomato and found an old apple that had literally shrunk and shriveled like a prune. It was embarrassing but funny. Then my mom recently came to visit and looked in my empty freezer and was horrified that I didn’t have pounds and pounds of meat saved up for “a rainy day”. So…if you want the raw truth, keep reading…here’s what’s in my fridge – – – –
1) Milk
I only buy milk when I want to make pancakes with my favorite mix ever (no, I don’t make them from scratch like my Papa but they are still pretty tasty.)
20171013_112038
2) Brown eggs
Not sure why I always buy the brown ones but I do. Maybe because they remind me of my grandparents farm. Here’s a rare picture of my Papa on the farm. He never poses for pictures so I have to sneak around to capture him.

3) Pillsbury Dinner Rolls and Mini Sausages
I always keep these on hand. In a pinch you can make pigs-in-a-blanket for breakfast or for an appetizer and look like you have it all together.

4) Pot Pie
This is random but I have a pre-made pot pie from the Texas Pie Company. It is delicious and all you have to do is pop it in the oven. Here is their cute store front located in Kyle, Texas. It makes me smile.

5) Avocados
These aren’t actually in the fridge but I have a bunch of them on hand. Ever since I heard that Tim Tebow (my favorite past Florida Gator) eats like 8 of them a day, I can’t get enough of them either. I like them plain, with mayo, or mixed with tomatoes and Italian dressing on top for a little red and green salad.
Acacado
6) Cold Brew Coffee
If you’ve read my blogs before, you know that I’m a coffee lover. These little cans are a new favorite especially on hot days.

And sadly, that’s about all I have folks. I’m a minimalist when it comes to keeping food on hand. I prefer to plan a meal and go out and get the ingredients that day…or go out to eat!!! Do you tend to keep a lot on hand? What are some necessities that you have to have?
Thanks for reading! Enjoy your weekend. I’ll be back next Friday with the next blog challenge: What is your earliest memory?

Blog Challenge #8: What’s in your handbag?

I have two handbags that I use depending on the day. I have my little Louis Vuitton Eva Clutch that is my jewel and I have my bigger Michael Kors bucket tote that is more practical for an everyday “mom on the go”. Here are a few essentials that I carry (some I can’t fit in my Eva clutch sadly…if only it were a tad bigger!)

NYX Lip gloss ~ I know that I have raved about these in some of my earlier blogs but these little drug store lip glosses are amazing. And…I love their name “butter gloss” and they are just that! I have the shade Strawberry Parfait and pick up this shade whenever I am in a CVS or Ulta. If you go to look for this shade and don’t see it, I’ve probably already raided your local drug store :o)

lip butter

Mac Blot Powder ~ This stuff is amazing if you live in a humid climate and have oily/combination skin like me. It is translucent and gives you an “I just finished my makeup” look any time of day even if you’ve been on the go for hours.

mac

Burt’s Bees Witch Hazel Hand Sanitizer ~ This stuff is an inspiration from my mom. I absolutely love that it is an all-natural sanitizer and the smell is very crisp and clean in my opinion. It comes in a spritz bottle but beware…not everyone will love the scent.

burts bees

Cash ~ Yes, I’m still old school and carry cash wherever I go. My hubby and I have adopted Dave Ramsey’s idea of taking out cash for the week and once it is spent, you’re done! Here are some other fun money saving tips from the master of getting out of debt.

ramset.jpg

A Pretty Hair Clip ~ This is a necessity in case you are having “one of those” hair days. A cute clip can save you from feeling frumpy. Here are a few of my favorites hair goodies from Etsy.

My Sparkle Card Holder ~ No matter how old I get, I still run into Claire’s to check out their cute sparkly stuff sometimes when I am killing time in a mall. I found this cute card holder that is perfect for either of my bags. It is just big enough to hold my necessity cards and the texture of the outside makes it easy to find when you are digging around at checkout. Claire’s had all different colors too!

Ginger Altoids ~ I don’t usually like the taste of ginger but these little heavenly drops are amazing! Get you some!

That’s pretty much all I carry. Of course I am like any woman and have the additional 5lbs of loose change in the bottom of my bag that makes it feel like I am carrying more than what I am. What are some of your handbag content essentials? Am I missing something that I need for on the go? Thank you for reading and happy Friday!

Next week’s writing prompt is: What are your worst habits?

A start of Summer Trends…

A start of Summer Trends…

This week I bring to you some fun trendy accessories for summer that I have noticed and am slowly becoming obsessed with as well.

  • Anything mermaid!

You might be a mermaid if you love the beach. Always are trying to obtain the perfect salty, wavy, tousled hair look. Have a little bit of a colorful, gypsy soul. Love finding beauty in simple things, like the perfect shell on the beach. If this is you…here are some perfect accessories for your mermaid transition.

  • Beach Towel Blankets

These gorgeous towels can make any beach a paradise. Cozy and fun with plenty of room to layout, have a mini snack bar, and enjoy the whole day/evening at the beach.

  • Kimonos

These breezy, lightweight, wonders of the world are a new favorite to me. Kimonos can be worn over your bathing suit as a cover-up without being too hot or can be dressed up for a shopping venture or night out. All in all the perfect accessory for summer. Prints and solids and something for everyone!

  • Light-Colored Nails

Let’s face it, light colors make you appear tanner. Or so I have found. These fun light colors for summer will compliment you summer wardrobe and accentuate you glowing skin!

  • Layered Dainty Gold Necklaces

This is a trend that started last summer or the one before and I see it sticking around for a while. Delicate chains layered up together give a feminine, boho look that pairs well with any kind of style. The good thing about investing in gold is that they will not tarnish (or turn your skin green eeekk). Plus you will have them for summers to come and the salty air/beach waves will not hurt them.

  • A good DIY project

Now that the weather is so nice and we are all dying to be outside to make up for our winter vitamin C deficit. Check out a few of these fun and adorable DIY projects to do with a friend or solo.

  • Grill Out Recipes

Grilling out screams summer to me. You can extend your long summer day well into the evening by taking your dinner time outside on the porch. Let everyone enjoy some coconut water while you throw some healthy eats on the grill.

  • Fun Pool Floats

These summer necessities have been causing a lot of craze on social media ~ especially my Instagram feed. I need them all!

As the summer goes on, I will be back to bring you some more trendy, fun ideas to make the most of summer 2017. I hope enjoyed this post and Happy Friday!!!

June Fun Facts, Birthstone Info, and a “Start of Summer” Fun Manual

Happy first month of summer. Is it the school kid in me that even after 15 years I still get so excited for summer break? I don’t really take a “break” from anything and don’t really plan any fun vacations for this month but it still has an underlying feeling of FREEDOM! The days are longer, the flowers are blooming, and there seems to be more energy to do fun projects.

hello june

The month of June hosts Donut Day, Best Friends Day, Iced Tea Day, Flip Flop Day, Father’s Day, First Day of Summer, and Sunglasses Day. I don’t know about you but I can get excited to celebrate any and all of those days. Check out the list of other days to celebrate in June.

June’s birthstone is the pearl. What a gorgeous birthstone to complement your first start to a tan and your vibrant bright clothes.

“Who comes with summer to this earth

And owes to June her hour of birth,

A pearl should wear against her skin

Whose innocence many a heart shall win”

~Anonymous

Minimal Always Wins: From unicorn drinks, baby/wedding showers, to accessories

Minimal Always Wins: From unicorn drinks, baby/wedding showers, to accessories

“Simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance” ~ Coco Chanel

Who can argue with Coco Chanel? Not me, I totally agree with her. Something about simplicity or the more modern term “minimal”, just never goes out of style.

As I visited Starbucks a few days ago, I noticed that in the store and on social media people where in uproar over this strangely colorful, over-complicated, borderline poisonous, unicorn drink. I ordered my regular tall cold brew with almond milk. My simple drink order got the attention of the barista. She asked, “you’re not falling for the unicorn craze today?” Nope, not me. She followed that up by, “well you won’t regret drinking this simple brew in a few hours like the hundreds of unicorn partakers will.”  Fads are fun, fly by night trends are intriguing but the simple classics will always dominate even in the coffee world!

As the rain showers come down, our family is preparing for a baby shower and a wedding shower soon. My favorite registry place is Pottery Barn for both babies and weddings. They specialize in such classic, minimal, timeless, yet functional and chic gifts. This reiterated to me again that the elegance of simplicity cannot be matched. Here are a few of my favorite showers gifts for any couple or occasion.

My husband and I are moving and will have to be living out of our suitcase for a few weeks. I was packing and trying to prepare for different occasions, have the right shoes, accessories, etc; I went back to minimal, classic, mix-and-match pieces. Here is what is in my suitcase:

Floral print maxi dress from amazon (doesn’t wrinkle, was perfect for Easter and the upcoming shower)

Tory Burch sandals (comfy yet dressy enough to wear for any occasion)

Jeans with solid color t-shirts (these mix and match pieces can be dressed up or down with jewelry and different shoes)

My jewelry consists of a statement necklace, simple necklace, bold earrings, and diamond studs (these 4 pieces again have me covered for virtually any occasion or outing)

Having a simple wardrobe has allowed me to not over-stress about over-packing or having too much scattered throughout the hotels/houses we are staying at for the next few weeks. I can concentrate on family time, site seeing, house hunting, and good food.

I would love to hear how you have simplified your life and how it has impacted you (for the good or bad). Thank you for reading and Happy Friday!

My 5 Guilty Pleasures

I like to think that we all have those little habits or rituals that just make us tick. I have 5 major ones that just instantly put me in my happy place. I’ll share mine and I would love to hear yours…I’m always in the market to adopt a few more :o)

  • Coconut Oil

I have loved coconut since before coconut was cool. I love the smell! Not only does it has a light refreshing scent, it has many health benefits. This is the kind that I bought at Kroger.

20170127_142714.jpg

You can literally cook with it, use it as a moisturizer or lip balm, and even put in it your hair for a hydrating lift. I seriously love this stuff. Check out this list of health benefits from using coconut oil and you might want to give it a try yourself!

  • Online shopping carts

At any given time you can search my history on my computer and go to my Etsy account, Nordstrom’s page, Impressions Boutique, or Amazon and my shopping cart will have excessive amount of goodies sitting in there. I don’t buy it all. I will put anything I “like” in there, then I will wait an hour or a day, go back, review it, and work through the process of dividing and conquering (conquering = buying). This is my absolute favorite way to shop. It’s my thing. It takes all the stress away and believe it or not, it cuts back on buyer’s remorse and returns.

  • Turquoise Jewelry

This is an obsession really. I love turquoise jewelry! The color just adds a brightness to any outfit and it just makes me feel happy. Here is a photo of my current favorite pieces!

  • Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown

This is probably the oddest show that someone would DVR but I do. It just makes me happy. I think Anthony is one of my spirit animals. He travels to all these countries and takes in the culture but really he takes in the food. My recent favorite was his visit to Vietnam. Pho Soup anyone?!? Pho soup consists of a hearty, savory broth with rice noodles, herbs and meat (usually chicken or beef). It is just so yummy. If traditional chicken soup doesn’t do it for you when you are sick, try some pho soup from your local Vietnamese restaurant. It will NOT let you down!

  • Wardrobe Capsules

Have you tried one yet? I have been thinking about writing a blog just on making a wardrobe capsule from your own closet. Basically you select a handful of items including shirts, cardigans, pants/jeans, scarves, boots/sandals and then you make an entire week or month of interchangeable outfits from those pieces. One of my favorite capsules right now is by a fellow blogger, Kelli Kroneberger. Check it out here.

Here are a few other ideas to get you going.

If you don’t have the pieces you want, don’t forget to add them to your online shopping cart ;o)

New Year’s Resolutions

As 2016 comes to an end, many of us still debate about making and keeping a new year’s resolution. I am sure you have seen this ultimate list that everyone seems to steal from:
resolutions-1
List Credit: http://www.simplifiedbee.com/2014/01/new-year-goals.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed:+http/simplifiedbeeblogspotcom+(Simplified+Bee)
While all of these are good, maybe we need to be more specific and make some small “easy” goals along with larger ones that will make us look back at 2017 with pride in ourselves. I want to give you a few ideas for making some resolutions.
For starters, it can be a huge, daunting task to commit to something for a year day in and day out. As much as our heart is willing, our flesh is weak. How about starting a monthly resolution first? Say for the month of January you will make it a priority to go for a walk every other day. For February, you will see to it to keep track of your food intake and try to make healthier choices. For March, try doing some food prep on Sunday afternoons for a few weeks to see if that helps with curbing your desire to run through a fast food place. Here is a similar chart for month to month resolutions that can help.
resolutions-2
Chart Credit: http://www.ehow.com/ehow-fitness/blog/12-months-to-a-better-you/?utm_source=pinterest.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_content=inline&utm_campaign=fanpage&crlt.pid=camp.N74xMW9h0E4d&crlt.pid=camp.EABPoFl2R6Sh
There may be a few of you that committed to a healthy life style change last year and kept your resolution. If so, that’s amazing! Keep up that good work and maybe reflect on some resolutions to focus on living more spiritually “zen”. Sometimes our bodies can be healthy and happy but our spirit and attitude keeps us from being mentally happy. These life changing attitude adjustments can be just as difficult to keep as the physical fitness ones. Check out this idea list:
resolutions-3
List Credit: http://tinybuddha.com/category/fun-and-inspiring/
I read once that a woman who has an organized closet can take over the world. I believe this to be true. When my house is organized from top to bottom I just feel invincible. It is hard work and can loom over you if you try and do it all in one day or weekend. Give yourself more time, you can’t neglect your family while trying to tackle your clutter. Try this 21 day list but spread it over 21 weeks instead.
resolutions-4
List Credit: http://tobifairley.com/blog
If all this is too much for the upcoming year, I understand! We can’t do it all. If I could give just one simple resolution to myself and my readers, I would say to enjoy the little things. Take the time to enjoy the sunshine on a spring day, a cup of coffee with a friend, a home cooked meal with your family, a walk with your dog even on a rainy day, a few hours to read a book in the library, etc. As Ferris Bueller would say, “life goes by pretty fast, if you don’t stop and look around once in a while you could miss it.”
